One Woman's Hands, a Town's Heart
by Faith, The Whimsical Redhead
In a world that moves fast and often forgets to check in, sometimes a wreath can do what words can’t—a burst of beauty that says, you matter, you’re not alone, or even just look how lovely life can still be.
That’s the spirit behind Wreathing for Community, a grassroots effort I started right here in Westport. I take donated faux florals—leftovers from basements, dusty craft bins, and retired centerpieces—and transform them into joyful, one-of-a-kind wreaths. Then, I give them away to people and places in our town who could use a lift.
The supplies come from the community.
The wreaths are made by me & the community.
The joy belongs to everyone.
Neighbors message me with nominations—sometimes it’s a friend going through a hard season, a teacher who’s gone above and beyond, a new mom, a grieving family, or someone who simply brings light into the lives of others and deserves a little surprise at their door.
Every wreath is different because every story is different. Some are bright and bold, others soft and sentimental. I never quite know what a donation bag will hold, and that’s part of the magic. What one person no longer needed becomes the heart of something brand new—woven together with purpose and care.
This isn’t a business. I don’t sell these wreaths or take commissions. Wreathing for Community runs on generosity and love: the generosity of those who donate materials, and the love I pour into every design. It’s a small way to honor people right where they are—with something beautiful made just for them.
So if you’re local and have faux florals or wreath-making materials you no longer need, I’d be grateful for your donation. And if you know someone who could use a wreath-shaped hug, send me their story. Because when we combine heart with creativity, even the simplest door can become a place of welcome, beauty, and belonging.
